Dragon Boat Race

The Cedars Cancer Institute Dragon Boat Race and Festival

On September 12, 2009 a group of L-3 MAPPS employees, the “L-3 Krazy Komodos”, took part in the empowering and exhilarating experience of paddling in dragon boats in the "Cedars Cancer Institute Dragon Boat Race and Festival."

Thanks to generous contributions through fundraising activities, the L-3 Krazy Komodos dragon boat team donated a grand total of $10,802.00 to the Cedars Cancer Institute. The funds raised will benefit the Cedars CanSupport Program for psychosocial, practical and humanitarian support for cancer patients and their families. Over the years, CanSupport has developed and improved their services to better accommodate the needs of today's patients. The donations received will ensure that the staff and dedicated volunteers at Cedars have all the tools they need to offer compassionate care and understanding to enrich the lives of cancer patients during their treatment process.

UAMO

Sun Youth

Every holiday season, L-3 MAPPS supports Sun Youth by collecting non-perishable food items and toys for the less fortunate.

Sun Youth distributes Christmas Baskets to approximately 10,000 families and gives toys to 13,000 deserving children. Their Christmas baskets are prepared in advance at their warehouse on de Gaspé Street, and filled with non-perishable food donations received from members of the public and from corporations. The baskets are then shipped to their headquarters on a daily basis in mid-December.

The quantity of food a family receives depends on the size of the family. People who want to register for a basket need to bring proof of income and proof of address, as well as the Medicare cards of all people living in the household. After registration is complete, clients receive an appointment card telling them when to pick up their basket. Identification cards are also required on distribution day. Families and individuals are entitled to only one basket per household.

Every year, a central index is prepared for all organizations that distribute holiday baskets to make sure families do not receive food from multiple organizations.
