History

Acquisition

In February 2005, L-3 acquired the Marine Controls division of CAE, which included the Power Systems and Simulation as well as the Space Systems and Simulation businesses (view the press release).

Marine

L-3 MAPPS entered the marine market in 1982, when we designed the first truly integrated platform management system for the Canadian Navy City Class Patrol Frigates. Since then, L-3 MAPPS systems have been deployed on over 140 warships in 18 different navies around the world, including all four of the US Navy’s latest programs. View L-3 MAPPS Marine experience.

Power

L-3 MAPPS entered the power plant simulation business over three decades ago, when Canada gave us our first order for a full-scale CANDU nuclear power plant simulator for the Pickering ‘A’ plant. Today, L-3 MAPPS is the world’s foremost supplier of high-end full scale simulators for nuclear power plants of most manufacturers, as well as simulation solutions for coal, oil, and gas fired power plants. Also, through cooperation with CANDU designer Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., L-3 MAPPS has been supplying CANDU plant computer systems - known as Digital Control Computer systems, for nuclear power plants since 1970. Space

In the space industry, L-3 MAPPS has become an active participant in the international space station program. Our contribution to this program includes an astronaut training facility for the space station robot arm and space qualified electronic hardware to control the video switching and routing for the space station cameras. International astronauts have been training on the L-3 MAPPS built simulator since 1997, and have given rave reviews of the training facility.
