Power Plant Simulators: Overview

Superior Training Systems from the World's Leading Simulation Company

Whether your plant is nuclear, fossil or natural gas fired, you can count on L-3 MAPPS to effectively deliver a simulator solution that best suits your training or engineering needs. Depending on your particular needs, we offer simulators ranging from classroom training simulators to system trainers to full scale simulators – all designed to exacting standards and aimed at unlocking value for your organization. We provide conception-to-completion, plant-specific simulators.

With over three decades of experience in power plant simulation developments, L-3 MAPPS has pioneered many of the principal advances in simulator design and functionality. We introduced the concept of "global malfunctions" in 1979, led the way to open computer systems in 1989, introduced real-time graphical component-based simulation in 1991 (ROSE®) and made power plant simulation available over the Internet in 2001.
L-3 MAPPS systems offer customers the choice of various Windows, Unix and Linux operating platforms, for increased flexibility and hardware compatibility.

Our simulators have received industry-wide recognition for superior training and plant operational applications. The simulator retrofit at STP Nuclear Operating Company's South Texas Project was the first to attain industry evaluation for full implementation of SOER 96-02*, Recommendation 6: "Update the simulator, as practical, to support operator training on changes to core designs or operating strategy."

* SOER 96-02 is a Significant Operating Event Report (SOER) for “Design and Operations Considerations for Reactor Cores” , published in 1996 by the institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO)
